Letter from Lawrence Reed to Philip Showalter Hench, March 18, 1950

MAJOR GENERAL WALTER L. REED

2810 THIRTY SIX PLACE
WASHINGTON, D. C.
March 18th 50
My dear Dr. Hench-

Your letter of the 13th together
with the enclosures (Mr Wallach's letter to you and
your reply to him) have been read with much
interest, It so happens that Blossom has
been with us for the past 10 days on a little
visit so I had the opportunity of reading
them to her and discussing the matter with her-

Mr Wallach called me up from
the Capitol one day & requested an
interview which I give him, When he
arrived and presented his card "The
Sidney Wallach Associates" cause me to
kind of hitch an eyebrow -

I told him I thought it was
very gracious of him to want to moralize
the 50th anniversary of Father's work and
I was all for it but - that there was little
I could do, I told him of your

R
interest in Fathers work, that Colonel
Siler was member of the Walter Reed
Memorial Assn - and that Gen Kean &
Gen Truby were two people who also knew
quite a little of the Commissions work-

He asked me to write to Mrs. Bland
of Va & Sam Jenner & express my interest
in their bills- Mr. Bland send that very
day & as yet I have not written to
Gen. Jenner primarily because I wanted to
wait & see if I could find out what
he really so [is] going to be done-

    Blossom & I are 100° behind
your views as expressed in your letter to
Mr Wallach- I think the idea of memorialyzing
the place where the experiments were accomplished
should rank high if anything is to be done-

We both keenly feel that whatever is
done should most certainly meet the
approval of the Surgeon General, The Walter
Reed Memorial Board and yourself

Do let me know as things progress-

    Best wishes from us all,

Most sincerely

Walter L Reed
