By direction of the Secretary of War, Major Walter Reed, surgeon, U. S. Army, and Acting Assistant Surgeon James Carroll, U. S. Army, will proceed from this city to New York City, New York, and report in person to the commanding gen- eral, Department of the East, for duty. The travel enjoined is necessary for the public service. 33. By direction of the Secretary of War, Major Walter Reed, surgeon, U. S. Army, and Acting Assistant Surgeon James Carroll, U. S. Army, upon completion of the duty as- signed them by the commanding general, Department of the East, will proceed to Camp Columbia, Quemados, Cuba, on official business pertaining to the Medical Department, and report their arrival and instructions to the commanding gen- eral, Division of Cuba; the commanding general, Department of Havana and Pinar del Rio, and the commanding officer, Camp Columbia. The travel enjoined is necessary for the public service. 34. By direction of the Secretary of War, a board of medical officers is appointed to meet at Camp Columbia, Quemados, Cuba, for the purpose of pursuing scientific investigations with reference to the infectious diseases prevalent on the Island of Cuba.
