Letter from George A. Kellogg to John H. Andrus, February 28, 1941

EXECUTIVE

February 28, 1941.
Mr. J.H. Andrus
805 Cooper Street
Camden, N.J.
Dear Mr. Andrus:

Several years ago John Wyeth & Brother Inc. of Philadelphia gave me
permission to begin a series of paintings to be called "Pioneers
of American Medicine". Under separate cover I yesterday mailed
you copies of the first two paintings in the series. We are now
at work on the third painting to be entitled "The Conquest of
Yellow Fever".

Several weeks ago Dr. P.F. Hench of the Mayo Clinic was kind
enough to give us much excellent advice and new material on the
work which took place in Havana back in 1900. Among other things,
he gave me your address and with your permission I would like to
call on you some time during the next ten days in Camden. We feel
that we have a lot of information on the subject but do not wish
to go ahead with the finished painting until we have looked into
every source. I feel that in a short talk with you, you might
answer quite a number of questions which have come up in the last
few weeks as Dr. Hench tells me you were there and went through
this hazardous experiment yourself.

If you can drop me a short note at this address, 257 Cornelison
Ave., Jersey City, N.J. suggesting a convenient time for you to
see me on the coming Friday, or perhaps better the coming
Thursday afternoon, I will answer you by wire. I have to be in
Washington on Wednesday and perhaps Thursday morning and might be
able to stop on my way back up to Jersey City. Any help you can
give us in this project will be greatly appreciated.

Cordially yours,

George A. Kellogg
